Privacy notice

What we collect, why we hold it, who we share it with, and what happens to the data on a device you leave with us.

Last updated: August 2026.

Surrey Copiers Ltd, trading as Surrey Computer Centre, runs a computer shop and repair workshop at 157 Hersham Road, Hersham, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey KT12 5NR. This notice explains what personal data we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.

What we collect

  • If you enquire through this website: your name, email address, phone number, the type of enquiry, the make and model you entered and your message.
  • If you bring us a device: your contact details, a description of the fault, the job record, and the quotation and invoice.
  • Data on the device itself: repairing a computer sometimes means our technicians can see files, photos, email and accounts stored on it. We look only at what the repair requires, we do not copy anything off it except when you have asked us to back up or migrate your data, and any working copy made for that purpose is deleted once you have confirmed the transfer.
  • If you buy from us: the sale and warranty record, and, for a part exchange, the details of the machine you traded in.

Why we hold it, and our lawful basis

  • To answer your enquiry and quote for the work. Your consent and our legitimate interest in responding.
  • To carry out the repair or the sale. Performance of our contract with you.
  • To honour warranties and handle returns. Performance of our contract and our obligations under consumer law.
  • To meet legal duties. Tax, accounting and consumer protection law all require records to be kept.

Who we share it with

With manufacturers and parts suppliers where a part has to be ordered or a warranty claim made; with data recovery specialists, but only with your agreement and only when a job needs equipment we do not have; with the providers who run the systems we use, including the form service that delivers messages sent from this site; and with anyone we are legally required to tell. We do not sell your data.

Devices taken in part exchange

Every machine we take in is securely wiped before it is tested, refurbished or recycled. If you would rather erase it yourself first, that is entirely fine — tell us and we will show you how.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that do not become jobs are deleted on request. Job records, sales records and warranty records are kept for the periods required by consumer, accounting and tax law.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, ask us to restrict or stop using it, and ask for it in a portable format. Call 01932 245384 or use the contact form. We will respond within one month.

Complaints

Please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Please review before publishing. This notice was written from how the site is built and how a computer repair shop generally operates. Check it against your actual retention periods, how the workshop handles customer data and your part-exchange wiping process before it goes live. You should also add your company registration number, which a limited company is required to publish on its website.
